SUNDAY NOVEMBER 1: You are invited to participate in our Scavenger Hunt ON YOUR OWN. We will not have staff onsite passing out materials at the beginning and passing out candy at the end. But we will have a large box of our Scavenger Hunt Maps located at our info kiosk (between the parking lot and the stairs down to the site) and we will leave all of the pumpkins scattered around the site. We encourage you to visit Bluff Lake with your family, get dressed up, and explore the site! This will be free for visitors, and we will not have any reservation system. We hope that all families will practice safe social distancing while onsite, and follow the guidelines spelled out on the Scavenger Hunt Map. The park opens at sunrise(~7:30am) and closes at sunset (~6:00pm). Sunday looks like it will be a beautiful day, so we hope you enjoy this fully self-guided experience!

 

This year Boo on the Bluff will look a little different, but we still want you to have the chance to get dressed up, explore outside, and get some candy!

We will be doing timed entry, limiting one group into the site every 5 minutes. To reserve your timeslot, click the button below! Family groups (8 individuals) cost $10 and you MUST register ahead of time.

FAQ

WHAT IS A SPOOKY SELF-GUIDED SCAVENGER HUNT?
We’re glad you asked! We will give each family a map guiding you to locations around Bluff Lake where we have hidden mini pumpkins. You will need to use the clues and the map to help you find the pumpkins! Then you will record a hidden message we have written on the pumpkin to prove you found it. All activities will be hands free. Candy will be safely passed out by a staff member once you return to the top. The activity will be scaffolded so it can be enjoyed by 3 year olds or 12 year olds!

We will have two routes, one designed for younger kids (less than 1/4 mile), which should take about a half hour and will go over to the Sand Creek area. The other will take roughly an hour and will travel to the board walk and then walk along Sand Creek (less than 1 mile).

WHY AREN’T ANY OF YOUR PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS PARTICIPATING?
For the safety of everyone involved, we made the decision not to have all of our wonderful partner organizations participate in Boo this year. The decision was hard, but we wanted to drastically reduce the number of people each family will interact with. We felt that even with touch-free stations this would be really hard to do with partners involved.

HOW MANY STAFF MEMBERS WILL MY FAMILY INTERACT WITH?
We will have two Bluff Lake staff members onsite during the entire program. When your family arrives at Bluff Lake, you will interact with one staff member who will hand you some materials to get you started (all of which you will keep afterwards). Then when you are done with the scavenger hunt, you will visit a different staff member who will be responsible for passing out the candy bags ensuring safe social distancing.

ARE WE REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK?
Masks are required when interacting with Bluff Lake staff, so when your family is at either the intro station or the candy station. Once you are down in the site, masks are optional but socially distancing from other groups is required and continuing to wear masks is recommended.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE MY FAMILY TO COMPLETE?
We estimate that the normal route to the boardwalk and back will take your family 60 minutes to complete. However, we do have a shortened route that should only take 30 minutes.

WHAT DEFINES A FAMILY GROUP?
A family group is whatever you want it to be. The only limitation is that you cannot have more than 8 people in the group. This group of 8 can be two households of 4, or one household of 6 and a household of 2. By signing up with another family, you assume the risks inherent with associating with another household. Infants being carried or in a stroller do not count towards 8 person total.

WHAT WILL YOU DO IF IT GETS TOO CROWDED?
We will only be letting one family down into the site every 5 minutes, and ensuring that only 12 families are “on the course” at a time.  Please do not show up more than 5 minutes prior to your registered start time. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
