Mourning Dove

  • 99% of their diet consists of seeds. They will occasionally eat snails.

  • They eat 12-20% of their body weight a day.

  • They peck or use their feet to push ground litter to the side. However, they don’t scratch or dig with their feet.

  • They can be found in the open, in scattered forests, or on the edge of a forest.

  • A pair of mourning doves will preen each other, and eventually grab each other's beaks and bob up and down in unison.
