FIELD TRIPS: FAQ

  • The Monday prior to your field trip, there is the option for a Bluff Lake educator will come to your class. During this time we will talk with the students about what to bring, provide background information, bring biofacts, and answer any questions.

  • We can offer our education programs to 45 students at a time. Please schedule additional days for education programs if your group has more than 45 students.

  • Yes, the entire field trip group should be broken even groups (for example: two classes with 15 students each would be broken into three groups of 10). The number of groups depends on the number of educators facilitating and will be communicated to you before the fieldtrip.

  • Field Trips cost $8 per student. However, public schools with Title I status and/or 50% or more student enrollment in the free/reduced lunch program will have all fees waived, and will be reimbursed for bus/transportation fees.

  • Schools are responsible for providing their own transportation. We require schools to provide a bus request/route number in order to receive field trip confirmation.

  • Field trips are typically available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during the school year from 9:30am to 12:00pm. This does not include time for lunch.

  • You are welcome to have lunch at the end of the field trip (12:00pm). Weather permitting, your group may eat lunch at the top of the bluff around our fire circle, overlook, or picnic tables. We do offer a time to have a snack break during the field trip if requested. (All students must bring their own food and water).

  • Bluff Lake has four porta potties. Two are located upstairs near the shed and parking lot. One is at the bottom of the stairs by the amphitheater and another along the main trail near the boardwalk.

  • No.  We have no running water, drinking fountains, or sinks.

  • Bluff Lake is not owned by any city, state, or federal agency.  Bluff Lake is a private non-profit 501c3 organization that depends on grant funding, fee-based programs, and donations.
